على المترجم أن يكون لغويا أحيانا ...

الأخت جميلة الكلمة التي تحتها خط في الجملة التالية معناها "حوض التعلية"Vast dry-docks were built, connected by a series of locks to the river, each one could be subdivided to permit three ships to be built simultaneously. علما بأن المترجم غير ملزم بالأخذ بالمصطلح القاموسي إذا لم يكن شائعا، ويمكن للمترجم أن يستعيض عن المصطلح القاموسي في هذه الحالة بأي تعبير يعبر عن المعنى، بشرط أن تكون لدى المترجم المعرفة الأكيدة بما يعنيه هذا المصطلح أساسا.والله أعلمتحية مصطلحيةمنذر أبو هواش

حقيقة الهويس أو حوض التعلية

الأخت جميلةكنا في المشاركة السابقة قد أشرنا إلى أن كلمة "lock" أو "canal lock" تعني "حوض التعلية"، وهذا ما سوف تدركينه و تتحققين من صحته بمجرد مطالعتك للموضوع ومشاهدتك للصور التوضيحية بأدناه.قد تكون هذه المعلومة جديدة عليك، مما أدى إلى حصول الالتباس لديك في تحديد المعنى الحرفي لهذا المصطلح، وأعتقد أن بحثا بسيطا عن معنى هذا المصطلح في الانترنت سوف يقودك حتما إلى المعنى المطلوب.وأعتقد أن عبارة (لرفع السفن أو خفضها من مستوى إلى آخر) تصلح لأن تكون فزورة لأنها لا تكفي وحدها لتحديد معنى المصطلح، خاصة لمن لم يسبق له التعرف على القنوات المتعددة المستويات، والتي قد تكون ترعة صغيرة، وقد تكون قناة كبيرة مثل قناة بنما. فهل علمت أن قناة بنما تقع بين بحرين لهما مستويان مختلفان، وأنها مقسمة بحواجز إلى أحواض مائية مختلفة الارتفاع تسمى أحواض التعلية أو الرفع، وأن السفن تنتقل من طرف القناة إلى طرفها الأخر على مراحل، وذلك بالانتقال التدريجي من حوض إلى حوض بالشكل وبالتقنية المبينة بأدناه، وليس برفعها بأية آلة أو رافعة من أي شكل كان. وقد يتضح الأمر أكثر إذا عرفت أن كلمة هويس مأخوذة من مصطلح يستخدمه الفلاحون المصريون ويطلقونه على أجزاء الترعة أو القناة المائية المحجوزة بألواح حديدية وأحيانا على تلك الألواح نفسها، وأن أصله من كلمة "هوس" العامية بمعنى "أسكت" أو "اصمت" أو "أغلق فمك" ومن عبارة "أغلق فمك" هذه جاء معنى "إغلاق فم أو مأخذ" الترعة أو القناة المائية.فما رأيك دام فضلك؟تحية مصطلحيةمنذر أبو هواش<shapetype id="_x0000_t75" stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o

In the early history of Canadian exploration, boats that could be lifted out of the water and carried (such as canoes) were used. To go around a rapid, you pulled your boat out of the water and lugged it around. Later, on more traveled waterways, steel pins were put into rock outcrops along the rapids and boats would winch themselves upstream. These boats had to have a shallow draft (didn't sink too deep in the water), and winching was a slow process. On rivers that were deemed to be necessary for navigation, a more permanent solution was to build a canal around the rapids. A canal is a manmade waterway with a minimum depth of water in it. On the Rideau for instance, the minimum depth is 1.5 metres (5 feet). However if you just dig a ditch to the required depth and let the water flow through it you still have the other problem a rapid has, fast flowing water. In England, such canals were built, and boats were towed upstream by horses or oxen walking along trails built along the side of the canal just for this purpose. For systems like the Rideau, canals with fast flowing water would not be practical. The solution to slowing down water flow is to build locks. A lock in a canal is essentially a dam, and it keeps the water at the top and bottom from flowing too fast. To get the boat up or down the required elevation it floats the boat in a tub of water. No power is required for a lock, to get a boat up, water is let into the "tub" from the upstream (high water) side. To get a boat down, water is simply let out of the "tub" until the boat is lowered to the level of the water on the downstream (low water) side. أقترح كلمة الحبس مقابل كلمة Lock الواردة في الجملة المقدمة.

جاء ما يلي كشرح للفظة الحبس في متن اللغة، المجلد الثاني، ص 12 :

الحبس:

الماء المجموع لا مادة له: حجارة أو خشب يكون في فوهة النهر تمنع طغيان الماء، وهو : الحبس، والحباسة والحباسة، والحبس: مثل المصنعة يحبس فيها الماء حتى تمتلىء وقد ضاقت بالدبرة، ثم يساق الماء إلى غيرها.

 أخواي الكريمان الأستاذ منذر والأستاذ صابر جزاكم الله خيرا على ما تفضلتم به.. أفدتموني كثيرا، بارك الله فيكم. <span lang="AR-SA" dir="rtl" style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: "traditional arabic"; mso-ascii-font-family: "times new roman"; mso-hansi-font-family: "times new roman"; mso-fareast-language: zh-tw; mso-fareast-font-family: pmingliu; mso-ansi-language: en-us; mso-bidi-language: ar-sa">أستاذ منذر أليس الأصح أن نطلق على الهويس عبارة "حوض التعلية والخفض" بدلا من قصره على التعلية فقط؟.. خاصة وأن الهويس حسب الشرح الذي تفضلت به ينقل السفن من المكان المرتفع إلى المكان المنخفض على الأنهار التي تجري عادة من المرتفعات إلى الأماكن المنخفضة باتجاه البحار والمحيطات.

يبدو أن كلمة "هويس" عربية وفق ما جاء في المحيط:
الهوِيسُ: ما تخفيه في صدرك.-: النَّطَر والفكر؛ أَطِلِ الهويس في الأمر قبلَ تنفيذه.-: قنطرة على نهر أو ترعة ذات حاجز آليٍّ يحجز الماء الأعلى عن الأدنى حتى تنْقلَ السفن من أحد الماءين إلى الآخر.

هويس أم حويض أم حويز ...؟

الأخت جميلةبغض النظر عما يبدو من الشرح الإيضاحي المرفق بأعلاه فإن "الهويس" لا تقتصر مهمته على نقل السفن في اتجاه واحد، ومن أعلى إلى أسفل فقط، بل إنه ينقل السفن في كلا الاتجاهين، أي أنه يقوم بنقل السفن من أعلى إلى أسفل ومن أسفل إلى أعلى أيضا، بنفس الطريقة، وبنفس السهولة.لذلك فإن بإمكانك أن تسمي الهويس "حوض التعلية" أو "حوض التوطية" أو "حوض التعلية والخفض" أو "حوض السفن" أو "حوض الملاحة" أو مجرد "حوض مائي" فهذا أمر يعود لتقدير المترجم، ومعظم هذه التسميات تستخدم حاليا من أجل التعبير عن هذا المعنى المحدد.فكلمة ( dock) الواردة في النص موضوع البحث تعني منطقة مائية موجودة بين دعامتين أو إلى جانب دعامة واحدة، وهي بهذه الطريقة تشكل حجرة مائية أو حوضا مائيا اصطلح على تسميته بالهويس.ورغم التفسير اللغوي المتداول والمقدم بأعلاه لأصل كلمة هويس، فأنا لا أستبعد شخصيا احتمال أن تكون كلمة "هويس" محرفة من كلمة "حويض" والتي تعني "الحوض الصغير" (حويض – حويظ – حويز – حويس – هويس).وإليك بعض التسميات والمصطلحات الأخرى التي ترد فيها كلمة ( dock) بمعنى حوض:أجرة حوض السفن dockageعامل حوض بناء السفن dockerمدير حوض بناء السفن dockmasterالحوض العائم floating dockالحوض الجاف dry dockودمت سالمةمنذر أبو هواش<img height="100" alt="leftlock.gif (75781 bytes)" src="http://www.fodc.org/images/leftlock.gif" width="350" />Going Down<img height="100" alt="RightLock.gif (75081 bytes)" src="http://www.fodc.org/images/RightLock.gif" width="350" /> Going Up
